OUR PHILOSOPHY OF EDUCATION

God is the focus of our academic approach. We believe the Bible is the most precise revelation of God’s truth and must be central in our teaching.

Our goal for each child is that they demonstrate evidence and growth in every area of their life; spiritual, mental, social, emotional and physical.

Calvary Chapel Christian School  of Whittier believes that the following statements to be fundamental to one’s Christian Faith and a foundation for each family member to build upon.

To have commitments to God and to study the Bible in order to learn God’s will and purpose to one’s life.

To take an active role for the Godly instruction and education of one’s children.

To build strong relationships and communication skills in one’s family.

For one’s family to be part of a local church with regular attendance.

HOME SCHOOLING FACTS

Home education allows one-on-one teaching with individualized curriculum devised for the student to learn at his/her own rate with special attention being paid to the physical, emotional, and educational readiness; thus the parents have greater control over their child’s character development.

Statistical analysis of more than 80 studies indicates that the pupils taught individually scored on the average 30% higher on the Standard Achievement Test.

Home schooled children have no more trouble getting into college than those who have gone to conventional schools.

A recent study has shown that the self concept of home schooled children was significantly higher than conventionally schooled children.

ACTIVITIES

One of the most commonly asked questions about home schooled children is “What about socialization?”. We think that some kinds of socialization can be harmful, especially as encountered in school-type settings. However, occasional social interaction can have a positive effect on the children when parents facilitate positive socialization for their children.

Enrichment Classes: Children will be able to spend one morning a week in their classroom setting studying subjects ranging from art and music to science and economics. Enrichment classes are optional and will be offered October-May on Fridays from 9:30am-12:30pm

Park Days: We have scheduled park days for all ages. This allows children an opportunity to interact with others, while parents get a chance to visit and encourage each other.

Extra Curricular Activities: Christmas program, holiday celebrations, Shakespeare Theater, potlucks, talent shows, project night, and other activities are planned throughout the year giving famiies more opportunities to connect.

Field Trips: Planned field trips provide a variety of learning situations and hands on experiences

Commencement and Graduation Ceremony: The year ends with a celebration. All students are recognized and graduating seniors are individually honored for their accomplishments.

RECORD KEEPING

Private School Affidavits are filed with the State of California.

Student Cumulative Records are accurately updated and confidentially maintained in a fireproof safe.

Annual Achievement Testing is required for all 3rd-12th grade students. It is one tool available for parents to identify their child’s strengths and weaknesses, so that they can provide proper instruction.
